Pennebaker, Dorothy Marie Lykins -
Dr. Dorothy Marie Pennebaker of Creston, Iowa died Wednesday, March 7, 1984 at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston at the age of fifty-nine years. The daughter of Buford and Bessie Lykins, she was born in DeKalb, Missouri on April 18, 1924.
Dorothy spent her youth in DeKalb. She attended college in Maryville, Missouri and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1948.
Dorothy was united in marriage with G.R. Pennebaker on September 16, 1945 in Lenox, Iowa. Following graduation in 1948, the couple lived for a brief time in Abington, Illinois, moving to the Creston area in 1951. They operated their own
chiropractic clinic in Creston.
Dr. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Creston, Vesta Chapter of the O.E.S., Chautauqua, and the Morning Worship Church Circle. She was also the Mother Advisor for the Order of Rainbow for Girls.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. G.R. Pennebaker of Creston; a son, Gary of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; two daughters,Mrs. Lynn (Glennda) Adair of Sountais, California and Mrs. Darren (Gayla) Buckman of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren;her father, Buford Lykins of DeKalb, Missouri; four brothers, Lonnie Lykins of DeKalb, Missouri, Tom Lykins of St.Joseph, Missouri, Denny Lykins of Los Angeles, California, and Kelly Lykins of Utah; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Jean)Watkins of Tarkio, Missouri and Mrs. T.W. (Shirley) Osborn of St. Joseph, Missouri; her father-in-law and mother-in-law,Dr. E.R. and Bessie Pennebaker of Lenox, Iowa as well as other relatives and friends.
Services were held Saturday, March 10 at the Creston United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Roger Russell officiating. Music was by Mrs. Gene Boyd, organist.
Casket bearers were Melvin Davis, Don Burich, Arnold Berts, Clair Boyd, R.W. Robinson, and Allen Dougherty.
Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery at Creston.
Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home of Creston was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established to the Creston United Methodist Church.
