Chapman, Harvey S -
Harvey S. Chapman, the son of Fred S. and Mary Berard Chapman, was born September 10, 1910 on a farm in Adams County, Iowa. He died Tuesday, April 20 at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa at seventy-one years of age.
Harvey was a lifetime resident of the Cromwell area. At the time of his death, he still resided on the farm where he was born. Mr. Chapman continued to farm and was also a school bus driver.
On March 6, 1933 he was united in marriage with Opal Marie Spriggs at Grant City, Missouri. She preceded him in death November 6, 1954.
Mr. Chapman married Evelyn Schrodt in Jefferson on November 19, 1960.
Others preceding him in death besides his first wife were two sisters, a brother and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Creston; three daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. John) Gibson of Woodward, Donna (Mrs. Larry) Miller of Corning and Beverly (Mrs. H. Eugene) Cordell of Creston; a son, Donald Chapman of Lenox; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two brothers, Glenn Chapman of Creston and Bernard Chapman.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 22 at the Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home in Creston. Reverend Ross Shinn officiated. Music was by Mrs. Jean Boyd, organist. The selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer".
Casket bearers were Craig Cordell, David Gibson, Jim Gibson, Randy Gibson, Rick Lewis, and Robert Morris.
Honorary casket bearers were Raymond Brown, Brian Chapman, Troy Cordell, Axel Nelson, Albert Spring, Robert Stalker, and F.W. Sweeney.
Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Cromwell, Iowa.
A memorial has been established to the Greater Community Hospital.
