Rogers, Hal -
Funeral services for Hal Rogers will be Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Coen's Home for Funerals, Creston, with burial in Graceland cemetery. The family will meet their friends at the Funeral home Wednesday evening.
Mr Rogers, 39, of Creston, formerly of Lenox, was found dead early Tuesday morning in a garage, at 1302 Maple Street, where he kept a car. His body was found by his wife, Jean, about 4:30 a m.
He had told her that he was going to place anti-freeze in the car and she had noticed a light in the garage when she had gone by earlier in the night.
She went to the garage to look for him when she awakened and discovered he had not returned home.
A Des Moines pathologist who performed an autopsy, reported that Mr Rogers died of a coronary attack. He had been suffering from severe chest pains recently and had a medical history of high blood pressure.
When he was found, his body was slumped partly in the car, as though he had reached toward the ignition switch. The switch was turned off. Police officers said he had either reached into the car to start the motor or to turn it off after it had run.
The family lived in Lenox until 1955 and then moved to Creston. Hal had been fire chief there since 1957.
Besides his widow, he leaves four children: Ann, 17; Steven, 16; Joy, 7 and Tye 5; his parents, Mr and Mrs Orville Rogers, a brother Howard, all of Lenox; and a sister, Evelyn in California.
The family home is at 614 N. Maple St. Creston.
