The Afton Enterprise
April 23, 1891

Mrs. Eliza Walton Miller was born in the state of New Jersey on the 1st day of august, 1815. She moved from there to Indiana where she was married to John H. Miller, June 17, 1835. She came with her husband to Muscatine co., Iowa in the spring of 1836. Her husband died Dec. 30, 1870 leaving her the mother of eight children, two daughters and six sons. No one but a mother who has had charge of such a family can realize what labor, anxiety and perplexing care attend it. But she did her work patiently, nobly and well--leaving a well respected family behind her.

One of her sons is in the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal church.

She came to Union county, Iowa in 1877, where she has since lived until her death, which occurred April 2, 1891 at her home with her son William near Shannon in Grant township.

She joined the Methodist Episcopal; church in 1849 and lived a consistent christian life--realizing the obligations due to her Savior and her chuch. It may be said of her, "She hath done what she could."

Her funeral took place April 4, and was attended by a large number of friends and neighbors. The sermon was preached by the writer at Grant Center S. H. and burial at Harmony cemetery
