Mrs. J. E. Smith, died at the home of her son Elmer Cullison last Sunday evening at 9:20. Her death was caused by tumor of the stomach and her illness was lingering and her suffering intense.

Mrs. Smith was born in Ohio, April 17, 1833, and was aged 58 years, 7 months and 3 days at her death. She was married to W. K. Cullison, Aug. 5, 1849. They afterward moved to Iowa settling at Afton, in the early days of its history. Mr. Cullison died during the winter of 1889-90 and she afterward married J. E. Smith.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Evangelical church and the funeral services were conducted by the pastor Rev. W. W. Shuler, assisted by P. G. Meath of the Baptist church.

The funeral took place at 1 o'clock Tuesday after which the remains were interred in the cemetery. Mr. Smith survived her and two sons with their families mourn her loss. During her long residence here Mrs. Smith made many friends who will regret her death, but this will be tempered by knowing that she welcomed death as a relief from her suffering.
