Daryl Bradley

Daryl James Bradley, the son of Edward James and Rosemary Elizabeth (Walsh) Bradley, was born on March 26, 1920 in Creston, Iowa. Daryl entered eternal rest on January 24, 2013 at Providence Place Nursing Home in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the age of ninety-two years, nine months and twenty-nine days.

Daryl's family moved to Chicago in 1924 where he attended an all boys' school. The family returned to Creston in 1932. Daryl was enrolled in school in Creston and entered high school in 1934. He enjoyed being able to play sports, attending school dances and participating in the Glee Club. Daryl graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1938.

In 1940, Daryl joined the United States Navy. He went to the Great Lakes Training Station and was assigned to the Battleship Arkansas. In 1943, he was assigned to the Amphibious Forces and went overseas to Algeria and Africa and was involved in the invasions of Sicily and Salerno. Daryl served in the Navy from November 4, 1940 until November 18, 1946.

On April 29, 1942, Daryl married Evelyn Marie Baker in Missouri. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked in the oil business for a while and Coca Cola in Creston. He then worked as a Railway Mail Clerk for a few months and was called back into the service during the Korean War in 1951. Daryl served again in the Navy from April 9, 1951 until March 10, 1953.

Following his discharge, Daryl worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a Mail Clerk on the train from Minneapolis to Kansas City for more than thirty-five years. He retired in 1976 at age 55. In his retirement years, Daryl invested in the stock market and spent a lot of his time studying ways to be successful in this venture.

Left to cherish Daryl's memory are his children: Roselyn (Loren) Schultz, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Dennis (Bridget) Bradley, Minneapolis, MN; Seven Grandchildren; eight Great-Grandchildren; and two Great-Great-Grandchildren; his brother, Eddie Jack (Jan) Bradley, Cedar Rapids, IA; his sister, Dorothy Myers, West Des Moines, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Preceding Daryl in death were his parents; his wife in 2000; his daughter, Jacqulyn McCraken in 2002; and his brother-in-law, Mike Myers.
