Obituaries Powers Funeral Home

Lola Cheers, 96, of Afton, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at her grandson's home in Afton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday June 26 at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton, with family receiving friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Joy Building. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com

Lola Irene Cheers was born October 31, 1915 in Creston, Iowa to Carrie Marie (Jensen) Blakesley and Asa James Blakesley. She was educated in Creston Schools and graduated from Shannon City High School. On November 19, 1938, Lola was united in marriage to Tomas P. Cheers in Grant City, Mo.

They settled in the Arispe area where she was an active mother and farmwife for many years. Lola also worked in Creston at Gits in the assembly department. After retiring in 1987, Lola moved into Afton where she enjoyed working in her garden.

Lola will be survived by her daughter, Shirley (husband Marvin) Klos of New London, Ia.; three sons, Jerry (wife Roslyn) Blakesley of Afton, Leo (wife Dolly) Cheers of Creston and Jim (wife Kaye) Cheers of Independence, Mo., a sister Lois Bradley of Creston, seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tomas in June of 1986, a sister Zella Mae Hamilton and great-grand-daughter Brandie Klos.
