Max Sedgwick, 86, of Afton died Monday Nov. 29, 2004, at Afton Care Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec 3 at Powers Funeral Home. Burial will be at Groesbeck Cemetery near Lorimor. Kendle Nichols will officiate. Memorials may be directed to Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission.

Mr. Sedgwick, son of Mary Angeline (Terrill) and George Grant Sedgwick, was born June 28, 1918, in Redmond, Ore. He graduated from Bend High School in Bend, Ore., Northwestern Bible School and Northwestern Theological seminary, both in Minneapolis, Minn. He later studied at Westmont College in Los Angeles, Calif. and Western Baptist Bible College in Elcerrito, Calif. On June 14, 1942 he married Mary Jo Stalcup in Afton. They moved to Reseda, Calif. for 2 years, where he helped start a church. They moved to Northern California , near Sonoma County in Sebastopol, Calif., where he worked 13 years. They moved near Oakland, Calif., where he worked 25 years at Home of Peace (Missionary Home) and Fairmont Baptist Church. In 1978, they oved to Afton where he was pastor of Afton Bible church until 1985 and Faith Baptist Church, until retiring in 2000 at the age of 82. He was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Afton.

Survirors include his wife Mary Jo Sedgwick of Afton; son Daniel Sedgwick of Tracy, Calif.; Jerry Allen Wilhile, who they raised and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Kenny Sedgwick.
