Speer, James Walker –
James Walker Speer died at his home here [Clearfield] Tuesday, April 26 after an illness of several months. He had been confined to his bed but a few weeks. Mr. Speer was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, May 20, 1859, and at his
death was 72 years, 11 months, and 6 days old. When a young man he moved to Nebraska with his parents and on November 2, 1892, was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Jane Voss. To this union was born one son, Ray who has been his constant companion and cared for him during his declining years. In 1909 they moved to Missouri and resided there for five years, then came to the vicinity of Clearfield residing for a time on a farm, then moving into town. His wife died in 1920. He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Ray,
of Clearfield; one grandson, James Speer; three sisters, Mrs. Dell Ferris of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin; Mrs. Mollie Huffman of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska;and Mrs. Jennie Burton of McCook, Nebraska, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30, the Methodist Church, Rev. John C. Turner officiating; interment in the Clearfield cemetery.
