Afton--George G. Groesbeck, 85, 1301 Grand River Drive, Lorimor, died October 25, 1996, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge Street, Afton, Iowa. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs of Thayer will officiate with burial in the Groesbeck Cemetery west of Lorimor. There will be no visitation. A memorial will be established in his name.

Mr. Groesbeck was born August 11, 1911, near Afton to Franklin Herman and Esther Lenore (Schneider) Groesbeck. He graduated from Afton High School in 1930. On October 31, 1942 he married Maxine Berry at Grant City, Missouri.

He farmed, did soil conservation work, and was superintendent of the Lorimor Municipal Water System from 1971 until September 1, 1995. He also constructed and operated the Grand River Sawmill. He retired in September 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Groesbeck of Lorimor; two sons Dan (wife Dee) Groesbeck of Lorimor and George (wife Jodean) Groesbeck of Blue Springs, Missouri; two daughters, Esther (husband Lon) Means of Creston and Ruth (husband Terry) McDowell of Lorimor; a sister Sarah Hass of Fort Madison, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Lewis; sister, Ada Bethune; and two brothers-in-law, Davis Bethune and Kayo Hass.
