Samuel G. Leak was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., March 15, 1832, and died at his home in Afton, Iowa, May 17, 1916, aged 84 years, 2 months and 2 days. He came to Iowa in 1858 and soon located on a farm adjoining Afton. After moving to town he was in business for several years. He was married in 1854 to Catherine Camplin and to this union were born seven children of whom five are still living. They are Frank S. Leak, Afton, Ia.; Mrs. Alice Hart, Mineapolis, Minn.; John H. Leak, Crowder, Okla.; Russell A. Leak, Pratt, Kans.; and Archibald Leak, Ft. Scott, Kans.

The mother was called to the home beyond in 1880.

In all these years Mr. Leak was faithful to his obligations to the home and community.

In 1890 he was married to Harriet Robinson and their home has been in Afton since that time.

At the age of 35 he united with the church and lived a life of devotion to its teachings. He seldom missed a service, feeling help and strength in serving the Lord fervently. He was a good man, of blameless character and upright in his dealings with his fellowmen.

He could say of the Lord, with the Psalmist of old, "He is my refuge and my fortress; in Him will I trust," and to him the Lord said, "With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation."

As an early settler of Union county Father Leak was widely known by a large circle of friends and he will be missed in the life of the community. He leaves an aged companion, five children, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren to await the celestial reunion.

The funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church, Friday at 2:00 p.m., by the pastor, Rev. C. B. Guest, assisted by Rev. J. N. Strain. The services were largely attended by sympathizing friends. Interment was made in Greenlawn cemetery.
