Old Resident is now dead

A. M. Warfel Passed Away Monday
Evening at Cottage Hospital.

A. M. Warfel, an old resident of Lincoln township, who has been receiving treatment at the Cottage Hospital for the past few weeks, passed away Monday evening about 8:15 o'clock. He was 66 years old.

A. M. Warfel was born near Dennison, Ohio, Oct. 4, 1850. He came to Iowa in 1871 to look at the country with a view to locate. But not finding anything to suit him here he went on west to Kansas, where he took a claim in Warren county, and after proving up he sold the property and returned to his old home in Ohio, where he was married to Emma J. Hardman. To this union was born one son, in the year 1880. They with their son removed to Iowa and located at Redfield, Dallas county, in March 1883. They again moved and this time located in Union county. January 22, 1895, Mrs. Warfel passed out of this life and for 22 years father and son have kept the home together and were inseparable companions. For the last year Mr. Warfel's health has been failing and two weeks ago it was deemed best to remove him to the hospital where he died. The son Harold Warfel, of Creston, Iowa, a brother and sister, a niece and two nephews of Black Run, Ohio, are left to mourn his death besides a host of neighbors and friends in his home community in Lincoln township. It was his last request that there be no funeral service, music or flowers and that two of his old neighbors should read a chapter and offer prayer at the grave. Those wishing to view the remains can do so at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Emerson funeral chapel. At 2 o'clock the body will be borne to Graceland cemetery and laid to rest beside that of his wife, with short services according to his last request.
