For Creston SoldierFuneral services for Private Ceabern J. Derauf will be held at the Methodist church here at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. His body, returned from a military cemetery in Holland, will arrive in Creston from the Kansas City quartermaster depot tonight.
Pvt. Derauf was killed in Action near Lindern, Germany, Nov. 25, 1944. He was serving with a reconnaissance section of Company I, 334th Infantry of the 34th Division with the Ninth U. S. army.
He was inducted into the army Feb. 28, 1944, and trained at Camp Roberts, Calif. He arrived in England, Aug. 28, 1944, and saw service in France, Belgium and Holland.
His body was buried in a military cemetery at Margraten, Holland, until it was returned to the U. S. in the repatriation program.
Ceabern J. Derauf was born in Creston, March 27, 1925, the son of John W. and Fannie E. James Derauf. Surviving in addition to his parents are three sisters, Mrs. Ann Bratzel and Mrs. Millie Boden of Creston and Garneta Derauf at home; two half sisters, Mrs. Eleanore Carlson of Creston and Mrs. Ruby Grace of Oskaloosa; and two half brothers, Robert Keefer of Creston and Loren Derauf of St. Paul, Minn.
His body will be taken to the Deitrick and Keating funeral home where it will remain until time for the services. Rev. Myron E. Hayes will officiate at the services Wednesday afternoon. Casket bearers will be Leo Pitcher of Des Moines, Wayne Gidley, Dr. Norman Kilburn, Gene Hawks and Bill Strauss of Creston and Robert Danielson
The American Legion post will be in charge of military services with the Veterans of Foreign Wars participating as an honor guard.
