VERA MULLINS, ELKADER

Vera Kathryn Mullins, 92, of Elkader died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader.

A funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 28, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader with Pastor Andrea Mericle officiating. Interment was Saturday, Jan. 29, at Grosbeck-Ashland Cemetery in rural Lorimor.

Vera Kathryn was born Sept. 1, 1918, to Ernest and Grace (Cook) Cornelison in Union County, rural Lorimor, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Alvin Earl Comer, on Sept. 3, 1938, in Cedar Falls. They moved to a farm near Lorimor in March 1948, where they raised their three daughters. Following Alvin’s death in 1982, she later married Leslie Mullins of rural Lorimor. Later on, the couple moved to Elkader.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alvin Comer and Leslie Mullins; daughter, Nancy Vogelsmeier and sister, Leah Larrabee.

She is survived by her daughters, Sally Brown and Susan Johnson, all of Elkader; sister, Enid Wilson of Cedar Falls; brother, Leonard Cornelison of Pueblo, Colo.; four step-daughters; one step-son; 12 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and many wonderful great- and great-great grandchildren.

Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader is in charge of arrangements.
