The deceased came to Wapello County, Iowa in 1845 and was united in marriage to Wm. Groesbeck in the city of Ottumwa, Iowa March the 27th 1855. Soon after this marriage, husband and wife came to Union County, Iowa near the present family residence here. By toil and frugality the deceased and husband secured a comfortable home and ten children came to bless their home, four of this number passed away in infancy, while six are left to mourn the absence of a true and kind mother, Mrs. Mercy M. Hammans, of Lorimor, Iowa; Rev Adam F. Groesbeck a missionary of the Baptist M. Union at Swantene, China; Walter G. Groesbeck of Afton, Iowa; Miss Ruth E. of Lorimor, Fredrick L. of Des Moines, Iowa; The Rev. William D. of Bradyville. The deceased leaves two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah wife of D.V. Groesbeck of the Emmanuel Church being only present at her funeral.

Sister Groesbeck accepted Christ as her personal Savior in her fifteenth year of her age and became a member of the congregational church afterward she united with the Dunkard Church and at the time of her decease was a worthy member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Her life being a living record of true Christian character. She delighted in Gods word reading some of it daily. But her work is done and she is at rest while her influence is still living.

The funeral occurred at the old home the services being conducted by pastor The Rev. F. Edwards of Osceola, assisted by the Rev. Marriott of Dorlman and was largely attended by kind friends and sympathizing neighbors after which the remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery by the side of her husband who has preceded her to the City of the Dead to await the call of the resurrection trumpet at the last day .

May the Spirit of Grace and comfort be given to the bereaved and sorrowing friends.

A sleep in Jesus blessed sleep, from which none ever wakes to weep,
A calm and undisturbed repose, unbroken by the lust of foes.
