Bryan Stalcup, 96 of rural Afton died Monday, December 17, 2007 at his home in Afton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday December 22, 2007 at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Pastor Robert Sauser will officiate. Burial will be in the Groesbeck Cemetery in rural Lorimor. Open visitation will be 2- 7:30 p.m. Friday December 21, 2007 with family receiving 5-7:30 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to the First Baptist Church, Through the Bible Radio or the InterAct Ministries. Online condolences may be made under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com

Bryan Stalcup was born on March 7, 1911 in Dodge Township in Union County to Anna M. (Bryan) and John F. Stalcup. He graduated from Lorimor High School in 1929. On March 30, 1935 he was united in marriage to Dora May (Longshore) in Des Moines, Iowa. Bryan first worked as a hired man, then beginning in 1936 he farmed for himself, north of Afton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston.

Survivors include three daughters: Anna (husband Donald) Ford of Afton; Susan (husband Max) Meeker of Days Creek, Oreg.; Mary Belcher of Noble, Okla.; five sons: John (wife Lucy) Stalcup of Gladstone, Mo.; James (wife Linda) Stalcup of Lorimor, Ia.; Stephen (wife Patricia) Stalcup of Plano, Ill.; Mark (wife Louise) Stalcup of Lorimor, Ia.; Thad (wife Lali) Stalcup of Noble, Okla.; one brother Clarence (wife Irene) Stalcup of Murray, Ia.; two sisters: Mary Jo Sedgwick of Afton, Ia.; Ruth Means of Tucson, Ariz.; 33 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dora; son in-law: Robert Belcher; his sister Margaret (husband Harry) Bullock; Bryan’s brothers in-law: Max Sedgwick and Lyle Means; Dora’s sister Susan (husband James) Gibbs and Dora’s brother: William (wife Alice) Longshore.
