Olive Berry Died Tues., Buried Here Last Sunday

Former Resident passed Away at California Home; Body Brought here for Interment

The body of Mrs. Olive Berry was brought here last Friday evening from her home in San Bernardino, Calif., where she passed away on Tuesday. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Afton M.F. church, conducted by Rev. A.C. Stark of the Arispe church, assisted by Rev. Frank Moore of the Afton church. Interment was made in Greenlawn cemetery by the side of her husband.

Mrs. Berry formerly lived in the vicinity of Arispe where she was well known and had a host of friends. Although she had been afflicted for a number of years with rheumatism, she was always cheerful and ever ready to contact her friends. Her husband passed away many years ago, leaving her three small chidren, all of whom are fine young people and were here for the last rites. Mrs. Berry was a wonderful mother and in every way deserving of the friends she enjoyed.

Following is a short sketch of her life:

Olive Mary Wilson, daughter of James and Minerva Wilson, was born in Union county, Iowa, June 23, 1878, and departed this life November 25, 1941, at San Bernardino, Calif., at the age of 63 years, five months and two days.

She resided in this community with her parents where she grew to womanhood. At the age of 20 years she was united in marriage to Elijah Berry who preceded her in death on November 22, 1911. To this union was born three children, Dr. Lawrence Wilson Berry of Los Angeles, Calif.; Minerva Louise Robertson of Shannon City, Iowa, and Edna Kae Berry of San Bernardino, Calif., all of whom survive to mourn their loss. She also leaves one granddaughter Doris; two sisters, Mrs. Louise DeLay of Thayer, Iowa and Mrs. Florence Berry of Laguna Beach, Calif., besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

Her sister Kate and two brothers Walter and Andrew preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First Methodist church at Manhattan, Kansas, where she made her home until failing health made it impossible for her to care for herself. Since that time she has lived with her children who spared no effort or expense that might add to her comfort or in any way prolong her life. Although suffering intense pain there was never a word of complaint, always looking on the bright side and wanting to help herself and others in every way possible.

Olive was loved by all and will be missed by the entire community who extend their heart-felt sympathy to the children who so faithfully and tenderly cared for her.
