Philip O. Stewart of Middletown, Va., died May 28, 2010.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, June 2), with burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Phil Stewart was raised in the Lorimor area, graduating from Lorimor High School in 1941. A World War II veteran, he was wounded in a battle in Germany and spent many months in the hospital recuperating. In 1946, he married Loretta, one of his Army nurses. Phil continued his education, graduating from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. He retired from the National Park Service in Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Olna Stewart; his stepfather, Richard Kirk; and a daughter, Mary Jean Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta, and one daughter, two sons, and several grandchildren.
