Afton Star Enterprise-June, 1950

Mrs. Harry Berry passed away at the age of 68 in a hospital in South Laguna a few days ago following a severe stroke, lasping into unconsciousness from which she never recovered.

Mr. and Mrs. Berry had lived in South Laguna for the past 10 years, and at the time of her death lived at 31545 West St. They had a large acquaintance and none in the community was held in higher respect. Mrs. Berry was known as a wonderful wife and mother who had enjoyed 45 years of happy married life. She helped to rear a wonderful family of six daughters and one son. The family was spoken of as a group who were so near and dear to each other and who worked and thought so much in unity.

Florence A. Wilson was born at Afton, Iowa, August 23, 1882, and was at her passing nearly 68 years of age. She was the last of her parents' family to survive.

Besides being a wonderful homemaker. Mrs. Berry was also a good citizen who took an active interest in the affairs of the community. She was a devoted member of the Community Presbyterian church and a zealous worker in Circle 7 in the village. She took an active interest in the activities of the Girl Scouts. Mr. Berry is a member of the volunteer fire department and his wife was one of the leaders in the social activities of the auxiliary.

Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church, the Rev. Dallas R. Turner officiating. Intombment was in Melrose Abbey. The Laguna Beach Funeral Home was in Charge.

Mrs. Berry is survived by her husband, Harry E. Berry, ahd her seven children, Mrs. William Rohn, Laguna Beach; Mrs. Ronald Roberts, Alta Loma; Mrs. James Holloway, San Bernardino; Mrs. Paul Salado, Pomona, and Mrs. Harold Edwards, Mrs. Norman St. Clair and James Berry all of South Laguna.

Her most intimate friends tell us that Mrs. Berry had for years had an ambition to write children's stories. She regaled her own growing children and her 11 grandchildren with stories that had never before been told. But her busy life kept her from ever getting them to publishers, and now they remain only as cherished memories in the minds of those who were so fortunate to hear them.

Post Note: Florence Amanda Wilson was the daughter of James A. and Minerva (Herron) Wilson. Brothers: Walter C., James Andrew (also listed as Andrew J.) Wilson. Sisters: Mrs. Olive Mary (Elijah) Berry, Mrs. Louise A. (Arthur) DeLay and Mrs. Kate (Elmer) Conquest.
