MRS. LEON OAKES FUNERAL MAY 8th: Mrs. Leon Oakes passed away in the Creston hospital May 4th following a stroke she had suffered on the Tuesday evening preceding. She had reached the age of 59 years.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Arispe on Saturday afternoon. Casketbearers were Jonas Merritt, Earl Robinson, Ralph Smith, Henry Munsterman, Fred Lininger and Darrell Werner. Surviving are her husband, and 2 sons, Cecil at home and Russell Oakes of near Arispe; 3 grandchildren, Wayne, Charlene, and Jeanette Oakes; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Russell Oakes; 4 sisters and one brother Roy donner of Diagonal; Mrs. Essie Roodell of California; Mrs.Pearl Leech of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Mrs. Edith Stoenner of Creston; Mrs. Frank Cone of Shannon City and a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

One son, Gerald, passed away at the age of 2 months.

Mrs. Oakes, who had lived most of her life in Union County, had been a correspondent for this newspaper for a number of years.
