Edna Caviness, of Afton, passed away May 4, 1999, at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston. She was 95.

Mrs. Caviness, the daughter of Oscar and Julie (Endres) Echardt, was born June 15, 1903 in Adair County. She was united in marriage to Harvey Caviness on September 1, 1920. She lived in the Thayer area most of her life where she did papering and painting.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Caviness of Palmdale, California; a brother Wayne (wife Betty) Echardt of Fairfield; two sisters-in-law, Rosemond Echart of Greenfield and Myrna Echardt of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death were: her husband; two sons, Lyle and Donald Caviness; a sister Irma; and six brothers, Vern, Lloyd, Walter, Everett, Leland and Joe Echardt.

Graveside services were held May 8 at the Greenfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Duane Henrich officiating. The Steen Funeral Home of Greenfield was in charge of arrangments.
