Adams County Free Press (Corning, Iowa). June 15, 1939 (Thursday). Page 11, Column 5 in the "Cromwell" column:
"Services were held Friday afternoon [June 9] for William H. Widger, 80, who died at his home east of town Tuesday evening [June 6]. The service was in charge of Rev. A. B. Carson, pastor of the Cromwell Congregational church of which Mr. Widger was a member and deacon emeritus. Mr. Widger was born July 11, 1858, in Cuba, Illinois, and was married in 1888 at Cromwell to Fannie Hitchcock, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Roy Widger of Fresno, California, and one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Henry of Davenport, a sister, Mrs. Alice Horiman [sp?] of Creston, and a brother, A C. Widger, also seven grandchildren. Pall bearers were Charles, Henry and Carey Stalker, Elmer and George Kinkade, and Will Ours. Burial was in the Cromwell cemetery." END
