Mr. Baker moved with his parents from New York to Howell, Michigan, at the age of nine. He was married to Corrille Thompson Sept. 7, 1869, who passed away June 27, 1922.
To this union three children were born, Mrs. Louise Harrison of Cromwell, Phillip Baker of Eldora, and Bessie, who died in infancy.
Mr. Baker and family moved to Iowa in 1885, where he resided in Union township, Adams county, 53 years. In 1926 he moved to the country home of his daughter, Mrs. Louise Harrison and husband, with whom he moved to Cromwell four years ago.
Soon after moving to Iowa Mr. Baker united with the Cromwell Congregational church and was a faithful member throughout his years. His keen mind and pleasant disposition made him a cheerful visitor with his many callers, and a comfort to his family, which he so enjoyed.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Louise Harrison; one son, Phillip Baker; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and many friends of all ages, who will long remember their pleasant association with Grandpa Baker.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon [January 15], in charge of Rev. J.R. Moore, former pastor, assisted by Rev. R.C. Schmink. The church was filled with friends of the deceased who gathered to pay their last respects to Mr. Baker. Music was furnished by Mrs. F.M. Webb and Will Smith, who sang "Face to Face", "Going Down the Valley", and "Sweet Bye and Bye", accompanied by Mrs. M.E. McLaughlin.
