Adams County Union-Republican (Corning, Iowa)
June 28, 1922 (Wednesday)"Mrs. W.P. Baker passed away on Tuesday evening, June 27, 1922, at 9 o'clock, at her home four miles west of Cromwell, after several months illness, at the age of 75 years, 4 months,
and 11 days.August Cornelia Thompson was born at Linden, Mich., February 16, 1847. She grew to
womanhood in Michigan and was married near Howell, Mich., to Waldo P. Baker September 7,
1869. Three children were born to his union: Bessie, who died in infancy; Mrs. Louise Harrison
and Phillip Baker, of Cromwell, Iowa. Mrs. Baker came with her family to Cromwell about 1886
and settled on a farm, four miles west of town, which has been her home ever since. The
deceased was converted in young womanhood and has lived a consistent Christian ever since. On coming to Cromwell she united with the Congregational church and was a member of that church at the time of her death.Mrs. Baker has been an invalid the most of her life and it has been about 30 years since she
has been in town or in church, but she has been around in the neighborhood during that time and
has been to her children's homes during the past year, as they live within one-half mile of home.
She has been a great sufferer at times, but was always cheerful and interested in every thing and
everybody. It was a pleasure to visit with her and she will be missed in her home and by her many
friends. She leaves to mourn her loss her aged husband; two children, Mrs. Louise Harrison and
Phillip Baker, and six grandchildren, Claude, Warren, Mima, Fern and Glenn Harrison, and
Lavena Baker, besides other relatives and friends. Two years ago last September Mrs. and Mrs. Baker celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary with a family reunion and several friends calling on them.Funeral services to be held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 at the home. Interment will be made in Maple Hill [Cromwell] cemetery in Cromwell. The relatives have the sympathy of the community." END
