Afton, Iowa, April 27, 1893

The death of Mrs. A. J. Milligan occurred about four o’clock Sunday morning from consumption. While it was in a measure expected, yet it has caused a feeling of sadness to pervade many hearts outside the immediate family circle. The funeral was held at the residence of J. M. Milligan on Monday afternoon, the Rev. F. L. Goff, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, of which deceased was a member, conducting the services which were beautiful and impressive. The house was crowded with those who had come to pay their last tribute of respect to her whom they had known and loved, and to testify their sympathy for the sorrowing family. The floral offerings were remarkable for their great beauty and profusion. The choicest hothouse exotics had been sent by loving friends.

Deceased was about twenty-three years of age. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. James and formerly resided southwest of town. Only seven short months ago, she was married to Mr. Milligan and their married career began amid the warmest wishes for future happiness. Her loss will be a severe blow to the young husband in his present enfeebled condition. The deepest sympathy of this community is tendered him together with the other relatives.
