James Downey, Creston

James Carl Downey, 66 of 924 W. Mills died at 12:25 a.m. today at Greater Community Hospital

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial at Graceland cemetery

He was born May 16, 1914, in Union County to John and Louise (Shields) Downey. His wedding to Irene Woods was Feb. 27, 1942 in Grant City, Mo. She died Dec. 7, 1976. He married Mickey Owens Taddicken here March 29.

Mr. Downey, a lifetime resident of Diagonal and Creston, had been a farmer and factory worker before his retirement in 1976. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mickey; two stepdaughters, Patricia Miller of Omaha, Neb., Katherine West of Riverside, Calif; and Cynthis Goodwin of Omaha, Neb.; three stepgrandchildren; a brother, Raymond Downey of Newton; several nieces and nephews; and two aunts, Mildred Johnston of Beaconsfield and Bina Downey of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy.
