James Theodore Miller, youngest son of Henry C. and Angeline Burgess Miller, was born in Muncie, Indiana on March 9, 1873 and departed this life on March 27, 1959 at the Greater Community Hospital at Creston, Iowa. He had been ill for some time, but became seriously ill just 5 days before his death. His death came just 18 days after his 85th birthday.

Jim, as he was known and called by neighbors and friends, came to Union County at the age of four years. On August 27, 1895 he was united in marriage to Mary Lovina Kingery, and to this union were born five children: Olive De Ford, of Pine Valley, California; Bert, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Carrie Stradley, of Shannon City; Mona Jackson, of Los Gatos, California; and Lonnie Miller, of Osage, Iowa.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Mary Lovina (Kingery) Miller, the five children, fourteen grandchildren and 29 great, grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Cora Kingery, of Creston is the only surviving sister.

Jim and Mary, as they were each called by their friends, lived a long and happy married life together. In 1955 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. More than 100 relatives and friends helped them share in this grand occasion. Their love for each other and their faith in God provided them with sufficient strength to live a full and useful life.

Mr. Miller accepted Christ as his savior during a revival being conducted by Billy Sunday in 1906. He became a member of the Methodist church in Afton and remained a faithful member until his death.

Services were held at the Afton Methodist church Sunday March 30, 1985 at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Lyle De Ford and Rev. Lyle Dunham officiated. Burial was at Green Lawn Cemetery. Wm. Coen funeral home in charge.
