I checked at the courthouse and found the probate file mentioned. There wasn't any death record.

The probate file is in box 49, folder 464. I didn't have time for a full read of the contents.
Confirmed death date of July 28, 1883, age 70 yrs, 4 mo, 15 days, from the order for a tombstone, which if I recall was $40.

List of heirs:
Miles W Martin, 44, of Mormontown (which is now Blockton)
Caroline Mathers, 30, of Bedford
Dora A Martin, 17, Mormontown,
Floretta E Martin, 15, Mormontown
Charles E, 12, Mormontown
Thomas L, 10, Mormontown
Milley J Tackett, 9, Hopkins,, MO (10 miles south of Bedford)
James F Tackett, 7, Hopkins
Pearl May Tackett, 4, Mormontown

Let me know if there is more info from the probate record you might want.

P.S. When I got home, I threw the jeans I was wearing in the washer and started it. A few minutes later I remembered my notes were in the pocket!
