MRS. CHILCOTE RITES HELD AT CONWAY

Rites for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Chilcote were held at the Conway Methodist Church Monday afternoon, May 12. The Rev. Edward Tschetter officiated with music provided by Wayne Duncan.

Interment was at Lexington Cemetery. Casket bearers were Elmer Garst, Joe Newburn, Leo O'Grady, Cleo Redburn, James Eppers, and A.J. Freemyer.

Mrs. Chilcote, 90, passed away Friday, May 9, at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of Sarah Ellen and Henry Daniel Jennings she was born Jan. 13, 1879, at Keokuk, one of five children. In early childhood the family moved to Pierre, S.D. She attended school there and also a year of college in Indiana.

She was united in marriage to Charles W. Chilcote on Nov. 7, 1917, at Conway, Iowa. They returned to South Dakota and lived on a homestead near Phillip. To this union were born two children, Mary Lorena and Clarence Ernest. In 1917 they returned to Iowa to live. Due to her husband's failing health, she was appointed Postmaster of the Conway Post Office in 1923, a position she held until she retired. The past five and one half years she has been cared for in the Goeke Nursing Home in Montezuma.

She was a member of the Conway Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors of America and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, husband and son.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Osmond of Malcom; daughter-in-law, Marion Chilcote of Seal Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, Mrs. Anne Smith, Mrs. Edith Dayton and Mrs. Jean McCammant of Malcom, Russell Osmond of Oklahoma City, William H. Osmond of Ft. Riley, Kans. and Barry Chilcote of Seal Beach; two step-granddaughters, Trudy and Gayle Chilcote of Seal Beach; and 18 great-grandchildren.
