Maxine Rosalie Hamblen died; April 7, 2012 at Mercy Hospice of Johnson at the age of 87. Maxine was born October 24, 1924, the, third of seven children born to Mabel Link Walters and George Thomas Walters. She was born in rural Clarke County near Osceola.

Maxine lived in Clarke County until 1942 when she moved with her family to Blockton, Iowa in. Taylor County. She graduated from Blockton High School in 1943 and came to Des Moines soon after. She worked in a restaurant, The Des Moines Ordinance Plant and a toy factory before going to work for State Finance, in 1945. She worked the same job until 1986 under the names of State Finance, Dial Finance, Norwest Financial and currently known as Wells Fargo Financial.

After retiring from that job she worked as a volunteer in the Mercy Heritage Office from 1986 until 2010.

Maxine married John Harvey Hamblen, October 12,
1946 and he died in September 1985. They had one
son, George Michael, a twenty year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Maxine is survived by her son, Mike and his spouse, Lori of Lakin, Kansas; two grandchildren, T-J Of Denver, Colorado and Nick who is currently serving with the Marine Corps in Afghanistan, and Nick's wife Terra of Beaufort, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Zane and Emilee of Beaufort, South Carolina; a brother, Keith (Velma) Walters of Blockton, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and all who referred to her as Grandma Max or Aunt Max.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John;
Brothers, Wayne, John and Dale; sisters, Jeane Walters and June Bryan; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Animal Rescue League of Iowa or the Food Bank of Iowa.

Services will be at Brooks South Town Chapel,
7601 Fleur Drive, on Tuesday, April 10 at 2 p.m. with burial to follow. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Apr 2012.
