Mary Feeley West

Tama County Democrat, Nov. 23, 1911
Until then we are bound by our love and our faith,
To the saints who are waiting in paradise fair,
They have passed beyond life at the touching of death,
but they live like ourselves, in God's infinite care,"
Mrs. Mary West died, Monday night, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Al Mathern at Traer. She has suffered through the later years with heart troubles and these so weakened her body that death was an easy victory. She met the great summoner without fear for she had so lived the christian life that death had no sting, the grave no terrors for her.
She was born in St. Mary's, Canada, March 11, 1845. In 1861, she came with her parents, Michael Fealy and wife to Tama county, Otter Creek township. In 1863, she was united in the sacrement of matrimony with Alexander W. West at Iowa City and the newly married couple began housekeeping on the groom's farm east of Toledo.
To this union were born nine children four of whom survive their mother. The living are Mrs Catharine Mulligan of Bancroft, Iowa; Mrs. Frances Mathern and Alexander W. West of Traer and Amos West Toledo. All were present at the funeral services.
Some ten years ago the husband and father passed into the realms eternal. The widow continued to occupy the home until a year ago last March when falling health compelled her to give up housekeeping and go to Traer to live with her daughter, Mrs. Mathern. She was a kind neighbor, a faithfull friend and loving mother and sorrow rests upon the homes of her children and her friends, because of her departure from this life.
The funeral servives were held from the Catholic church at Tama, this morning Rev. Father Carroll conducting. The pail bears were Patrick Hamill, John Kiely, J.J. McMahon, Daniel Mulligan, J.F. Kinney and Robert Coughlin. Interment in Maplewood cemetery.
