Violet Elizabeth "Arb" Camery

Violet Elizabeth Arb, the only child of David and Mary Arb, was born Jan. 4, 1852, in Saltsburg, Pa., and died October 24, 1908 at her late home in Toledo, Iowa. At the age of 4 years, in company with her parents, she came to Iowa, stopping for a short time in Linn county and afterward coming to Toledo. Feb 2, 1861, her mother died, leaving the little girl nine years old without a mother's care. This break in the family circle made it necessary for her to live for a time among her mother's relatives, which change interferred very much with her earlier education. Later her father married again and she returned to his home where she lived happily for several years.
Nov 16, 1869, she was united in marriage to Denton Camery, with whom she spent nearly 39 years of happy wedded life. To them, Edith, an only child, was born, who is now Mrs. Frank Mc Claskey, She with her husband left their own home some months ago in order to assume the duties of her father's home and spend with her mother the short period of life that they realized was allotted her. .......For several years Mr. Camery's father has made his home with them and her care for him has always been as loving and tender as that of an own daughter.
The funeral of Mrs. D. Camery, wife of our postmaster, was held from her late home on Monday afternoon at 2:00, being conducted by Rev N. A. Mershon assisted by Rev. Donald Morrison of the Presbyterian church. The floral tributes were magnificent.
Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Newcomer of Eldora, Mr and Mrs. J. H. Barnes of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Bert Crossan, Eldora, Mrs C.C. Whitten, Cedar Rapids, George Brown and wife, C.P. Camery, Hon. S. M. Endicott, Traer, H. T. Arb and wife and son, Gene, Belle Plaine, Joseph Cowan, wife and daughter, Mt. Vernon, Mrs R. B. Richards, Boone, Miss Tressie Dempsey, Van Horne.
Every business house in town closed during the hour of the funeral.
