Mrs. Fred Holtz 1849-1916

On December 29, 1916, the Dysart community lost a life-long resident, Mrs. Fred Holtz who passed away on that day. She died at the age of 66 years.

Mary Rugestein was born March 4, 1849 in Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany. She left her native country in 1868 and in March of the same year was united in marriage to Fred Holtz at Bremen, Ill. From there they moved to St. Louis, Mo., where they resided until the end of 1874, when they moved to a farm in Benton County, five miles southeast of Dysart. Here they resided, going through their share of hardships of early pioneer days, until they moved to Dysart in 1896.
