Walter Herman Witt was born June 29, 1910 at rural Gladbrook, Tama, Iowa to Adelia Helen Arp and Frederick Louis Witt, the fifth of their six children. He was educated at Lincoln #9 rural school near Gladbrook, Iowa.

Found in the 1915 - 1930 censuses living on a farm at Lincoln, Tama, Iowa:
1915: Walter Witt age 5.

1920: Fred Witt 49, Adelie Witt 41, Lillian Witt 20, Elsie 13, Walter 9, Francis 6.

1925: Fredrick L Witt 54, Adelia E Witt 47, Lillian 25, Walter H 14, Frances L 11.

1930: Frederick L Witt 59, Adeile Witt 52, Lillian 30, Walter 19, Francis 16.

Walter married Iva May Davis on June 29, 1931 at Marshalltown, Marshall, Iowa.

The couple had 5 children: Walter Keith, Duane Ellsworth, Larry Alan, Patricia Ann and Dallas Dale.

Family found in the 1940 census living at Lincoln, Tama, Iowa: Walter H Witt 29, Iva M Witt 29, Walter K 7, Duane E 6, Larry A 3.

Walter farmed near Gladbrook and then moved to Marshalltown where he was employed as a carpenter by Stewart Construction. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.

From an article in the Tama Northern newspaper of Gladbrook, Iowa, August 12, 1955:

Walter Herman Witt was married to Iva May Davis June 29, 1931 at Marshalltown, IA. They are now engaged in farming 4 and 1/2 miles northwest of Gladbrook. They are the parents of five children, all of whom were born in Marshalltown, IA. They are namely, Walter Keith who is stationed at the present with the Navy Sea Bees on the island of Luzon in the Phillipines; Duane Ellsworth, who has just received his discharge from the army after serving the greater part of his two years in Panama. He is at home with his parents, as are the other three children Larry Alan, Patricia Ann and Dallas Dale.

Walter died December 20, 1982 at Marshalltown, Marshall, Iowa. He is buried at the Rosehill Memorial Gardens, Marshalltown, Marshall, Iowa. There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #135098660.
