Claus Henry Witt was born September 27, 1848 at Lutjenburg, Plon, Schleiswig-Holstein, Germany to Henry Witt and Louisa Reddick.

Claus and Georgina O Ehrig had a son on August 11, 1870 at Lutjenberg, Schleiswig-Holstein, Germany whom they named Frederick Louis Witt.

In either 1870, 1871 or 1874 (conflicting data found), the family of three emigrated to the United States and settled on land at Scott County, Iowa.

According to record found, on April 12, 1875 Claus H Witt and Georgina Ehrig were married at Davenport, Scott, Iowa.

Found in the 1880 census living at Blue Grass, Scott, Iowa: Henry C. Witt 30, Georgine Witt 30, Friederich Witt 9. Says born in Prussia, married, farmer.

In October of 1882, the couple had a son named Edward.

In 1884, they moved the family west to homestead at Silver Star, Montana where they lived for four years. Their son Albert was born there on August 31, 1884.

After returning to Iowa in 1888, Claus purchased farmland in Perry township, Tama County, Iowa. The couple had twin girls, Lulu and Annie born to them in September of 1889.

1895: Henry C Witt age 46.

1900: Claus Henry Witt 51, Georgiana Witt 59, Edward Witt 17, Albert Witt 15, Annie Witt 10, Linda Witt 10.

1905: Claus H Witt age 57.

1910: Cath Witt 62, Athel Witt 22, Lula Witt 20, Annie Witt 20.

Found in the 1920 census at Traer, Tama, Iowa: (widowed) Henry Witt 71, Anna Witt 31.

Found in the 1925, 1930 censuses at Perry, Tama, Iowa (living with a daughter):
1925: George Bonowitz 39, Lula Bonowitz 35, Lucile Bonowitz 6, Henry Bonowitz 4, Arline Bonowitz 1, Henry Witt 75.

1930: George Bonewitz 45, Lulu Bonewitz 41, Lucille Bonewitz 11, Henry Bonewitz 9, Arlene Bonewitz 5 yrs 11 mos,Henry C Witt 81, Carl Janssen 22. (says he emigrated 1870)

Claus H Witt died August 16, 1937 at Perry, Tama, Iowa. He is buried at the West Union Cemetery, Tama, Iowa. There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave # 74914196 with a photo of his gravestone.
