Jean Lorraine Maxson Ross was born March 6, 1916, near Marble Rock, Floyd County, IA, the daughter of Carl and Vera Wallace Maxson. She was a graduate of the Marble Rock High School and a 1935 graduate of Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, IA, following which she was employed in the First Security Bank & Trust Company in Charles City, Iowa.

On November 24, 1937 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA, Jean was united in marriage with Dale Harvey Ross who as an instructor in the Charles City High School and YMCA. In 1941 they moved to Chicago and Oak Park, IL, where they resided five years and Jean was an employee of Marshall Field & Co. and also the US Army Quartermaster Corps Re-negotiation Office. The family moved to Buckingham, IA in 1946, residing there 46 years moving to Traer, IA in 1992.

Following Dale's death on April 19, 2001 she continued to make her home at the Sunrise Hill Terrace Apartments. More recently Jean became a patient at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo where her death came on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Jean was active in her church and civic organizations throughout her lifetime serving twenty years as a Traer Library Board member and also served many years on the Buckingham Cemetery Board of Directors. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale, an infant son, James, brother Wallace Maxson and an infant twin brother. She is survived by her children Judy Martin and husband Larry of Eureka Spring, AR; Jill and husband Kenneth Rinkenberger of Marion, IA and Jack Ross and wife Joan of St. Simons Island, GA; four grandsons, one granddaughter and seven great grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Traer Public Library, Traer Historical Society or Ripley United Church of Christ.

Interment: Buckingham Cemetery, Traer, IA with Overton Family Funeral Homes, Traer, IA handling the arrangements.
