TRAER - Rodger M. Knoop, 67 of Traer died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City from complications of a stroke. Services were held Monday, July 27, 2009 at Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer with burial at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer.

Rodger Marcus Knoop was born January 7, 1942 in Traer, Iowa, son of Marcus and Vanetta Fink Knoop. Rodger attended school in Traer and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1960. During his school years he began his employment at Skelly Gas Station with Bill Bohnsack. After graduation he became employed at Pemberton & Kiel where he continued his employment after his marriage to Jane Dinsdale on September 2, 1961. Later he took a job as parts man for Pete Barge and in January of 1965 began working at Traer Implement in parts and sales purchasing an interest in that business in 1983. In 1986 he became sole owner and changed the name to Knoop Implement which he currently owned and operated. Rodger was an active member of the Traer community, and was a member of the Ripley United Church of Christ, former member of the Traer Fire Department, past president of the Traer Chamber of Commerce and member of the Tame Coiunty Pork Producers. He was instrumental in the formation of the Traer Ambulance Service in 1972 and while serving with them for 19 years, coordinated EMT-A classes through the area community colleges. He also served on the Triage and Trauma Board for several years. As a loyal supporter to the local community he was a member of the founding group of the Traer Museum and also a responsible party in establishing the Winding Stairs Festival.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Jane of Traer, daughter Annette and Bill Takach of Granger, IN, his son R. Scott Knoop, wife Leslie, grandchildren Braden and Ryleigh all of Charlevoix, MI and half-sister Loretta (Donald) Hanus of Dysart, IA and last and foremost his faithful four legged companion "Chip".
