TRAER – John Theodore Finzen, 90, of Traer, died Sunday, Jan. 20, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a sudden illness.

He was born Aug. 16, 1917, in rural Tama County, near Tama, son of Theodore and Olga Lacina Finzen. He attnended country school and farmed in Tama County for many years.

Before he had bilateral hip replacement, John loved to go fishing. After retirement he enjoyed going downtown to visit with the other retired fellows.

Survivors include: a sister, Ruth Hankner of Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Dysart, a sister-in-law, Marlys Finzen; five nieces, Joanne (David) Hanson, Janice Finzen, Jeanne (Galen) Delfs, Susan (James) Brucher, and four nephews, Russell (Sharon) Finzen, Terry (Peggy) Finzen, Gary Steffeney and Lee Steffency.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Ripley United Church of Christ, Traer, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m,. Wednesday, at the Overton Funeral Home, Traer.
