Isaac Shuckahosee Jr., age 80, of the Meskwaki Settlement died Saturday, April 21, 2007 in Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center due to a short-term illness. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Pallbearers will be Chauncey, Chalen, and Bradley Shuckahosee, George Iverson, Dean Whitebreast, Gerald Sanache, Lavern Jefferson and Damon Whitebreast. A Traditional Wake will be held on Sunday evening, April 22 at the Native American Drum Society Roundhouse.
Isaac Shuckahosee Jr. was born May 19, 1926, in Horton, Kansas the son of Isaac and Jane (Pelkey) Shuckahosee, Sr.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On January 3, 1964, he was united in marriage to Agnes Davenport at the Meskwaki Presbyterian Church in Tama. He was retired from the Meskwaki Senior Services. Isaac enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to Pow-Wows and dancing. He liked making new friends while traveling. He enjoyed and loved his kids, grandkids and adopted kids. He was a loving husband and a caring father who supported his kids with life’s endeavors. Isaac was a member of the Thunder Clan.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Isaac Sr. and Jane; one brother, Corbin Shuckahosee; three sisters, Sophie, Bernice and Lucille Shuckahosee; and one son, Robert Shuckahosee.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Tama; his children, Mary (Gerald) Sanache of Tama, Charles (Kathy) Shuckahosee of Toledo, Hattie (Dean) Whitebreast of Montour, Raymond (Daria) Slick Jr. of Tama, Marguerite Youngbear of Tama, Bradley Shuckahosee of Tama, Margaret “Annie” Shuckahosee of Tama, and Delarcy Shuckahosee of Tama; adopted daughters, Amelia Grant of Altoona, Dayle (George) Iverson of Altoona and Gloria Jean Grant of Seattle, WA; adopted sons, Kirby (Patti) Grant of Yuma, AZ and Kyle (Terri) Grant of Des Moines; one sister, Yvonne Negonsott of Hiawatha, KS; twenty-three grandkids; eight great-grand kids; and several nieces and nephews.
