OBITUARY

DOROTHY THOMAS

Memorial services for Dorothy M. Thomas, 91, of Traer, were held at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer on Saturday, May 20, 1995. Interment was in Buckingham Cemetery. She died at Sunrise Hill Care Center Tuesday, May 16, 1995.

The Rev. Mark Binder, pastor of the Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer officiated the service. Organist was Judy Mason and Wayne Dunlavey was vocalist Honorary casket bearers were John S. Bauch, John R. Thomas, Jared Bauch, Chris Detje, Harold Brandt, Jim Abernathy and Pete Barge. Flowers were handled by Euturpa Thomas, Carol Detje and Lea Ann Cluts.

Dorothy M. Thomas was born March 26, 1904, on the family farm near Kinross, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Alice (Adams) Moler. In 1918 she moved to Iowa City where she received her education graduating from the SUI in June of 1928.

She was united in marriage to Dean P. Thomas in 1929 and the couple made their home in Traer when Dean joined his father and uncle in the Thomas and Thomas Law Firm.

Dorothy was an active member of the community. She was a member of PEO, Iowana Club and participated in numerous community affairs and fund raising activities for Sunrise Hill and other local causes. She was active with her family, the school and helping bring Girl Scouting to the community. She was active in Scout activities for many years.

When her children were grown she assisted Dean in his law practice and became extremely knowledgeable in farm income tax preparation.

Following Dean's death in 1956, she continued to operate a tax preparation service to the community for several years. She became a resident of Sunrise Hill Care Center in January 1992.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a sister and two grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Hendrickson of Auburn, Calif.; one son, Norman of Phoenix, Ariz., six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
