OBITUARY

ALLEN L. SCHLICHTING

Funeral services for Allen Schlichting, 75, of Traer, were held Wednesday morning, March 15, 2000, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer, with military graveside rites conducted by the Kubik-Finch Post No. 142 of Traer.

Allen died Saturday, March 11, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of complications following surgery.

The Rev. Sheryl Campbell officiated the service. Music was provided by Judy Mason

Casket bearers were Andy Schlichting. Darren Schlichting, Roxanne Greene, Lacey Schlichting, Steve Greene and Dennis Smolik. Julie Hupfield and Vivian Jesina were in charge of floral tributes

Allen Lawrence Schlichting was born Oct. 13, 1924, at Traer, the son of Dora (Schlichting) Foster. He received his education in Traer, graduating from high school in the Class of 1944.

He worked for Albert Detje and Ralph Harder at the Sinclair Station in Traer before serving his country in the US Army in 1949. Following his discharge he returned to Traer.

Allen was united in marriage to Arlene Smolik at the little Brown Church at Nashua on Jan. 31, 1953.

He later became employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation, where he worked for 26 years before a disability forced his early retirement. Allen then operated a lawn and garden tilling businessd and in free moments enjoyed playing Bingo.

Preceding him in death was his mother.

Allen is survived by his wife, Arlene of Traer; three sons and their wives, Gary and Linda Schlichting. Gerald and Deb Schlichting and Ronald and Tina Schlichting, all of Traer; two step-brothers, John R. Foster of Dysart and Richard Foster of Germany; six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
