OBITUARY

Burton S. Romick was born northwest of Traer, January 6, 1899, son of John C. and Grace (Scott) Romick. Burton graduated from Traer High School in 1919.

On Nov. 3, 1920, he married F. Marguerite Dalziel. Burton then worked on farms in the area and at the Mowery Lee Co. until 1928 when he began work as a tank wagon agent for the Standard Oil Co.

In Feb. of 1943, the Romicks moved back to Traer and Burton entered the US Navy serving his country for two years. After his discharge he returned to Traer and worked on farms in the area.

In June, 1945, Burton began working for the Pemberton Implement Co. In August 1967, Burton went to work for the US Post Office in Traer as a clerk carrier and rural route carrier and then retired in 1975.

Marguerite died after a long illness Sept. 4, 1974.

On Jan 4, 1977, he married Fannie Stevenson at her home in Traer.

In past months Burton has been in failing health and was admitted to Allen Hospital where he died Saturday, Oct. 15, 1983, at the age of 84 years.

Burton was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Cedar Rapids Consistory, El Kahir Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star.

Burton is survived by his wife Fannie, two sons Bruce of Oklahoma City, OK, and John of Marion, two daughters, Barbara Streittmatter, Traer; Phyllis Zager, Waterloo; three stepdaughters, Margery Wrage, Cedar Falls; Dorothy Scott, Bensenville, IL, and Willa Shaffer, Warren, OH; five sisters, Ruth Dague, Belvider, IL, Grace Young and Enid Quinn, both of Traer and Ariel Greenberg and Doris Lamb, both of Waterloo.
