OBITUARY

ELSIE POWELL

Elsie Katherine Powell died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997 at Bachelor Butte Nursing Center in Bend, OR. She was 87 years old, and was formerly a resident of Traer.

Services were held at Overton Funeral Home in Traer on Aug. 15 at 2 pm, with burial at West Union Cemetery, rural Traer. Officiating at the funeral service was the Rev. Rick Vesely of the Traer United Presbyterian Church. Joleen Edwards was organist.

Elsie Katherine Morrow was born in Perry Township, Tama County, Iowa on Aug. 23, 1909, the daughter of Walter and Lottie (Weaver) Morrow. She received her public school education at Traer High School, graduating in the class of 1926.

On April 25, 1936, Elsie married Lynn Powell in Rockford, IL. They made their home in Keota, IA, where they owned and operated a creamery. In 1939 they returned to farm east of Traer, until retirement in Traer in the mid-1970s. Lynn died in 1988, and Elsie moved to Santa Rosa, CA, then to Bend, OR.

Elsie was a member of Ripley United Church of Christ of Traer, and was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lynn.

She is survived by a son, James Powell of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Sherman of Sisters, OR, and one grandchild.
