OBITUARY

Elvie I. Nelsen was born July 18, 1901 at Voorhies, Iowa; the daughter of Jesse Dean and Molly (Dickey) Mastain. Elvie received her education in rural Lincoln Township and then worked for area farm families.

On December 3,1919 she was united in marriage to Marcus Nelsen at Grundy Center, Iowa and they began their married life farming near Hudson, Iowa. In 1925 they moved to a farm near Buckingham.

In free moments she enjoyed her Women's Club and doing handy work. She displayed her work at the Iowa State Fair and National Dairy Cattle Congress where she received many awards for her accomplishments.

Elvie and Marcus retired to Traer in 1951 where she continued to make her home after his death in 1969.

In March of 1996 she became a resident of the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer where she died on Sunday, July 6,1997 at the age of 95 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marcus, two sisters; Margie Vogt and Florence Mastain and two grandsons; Tom Koshatka and J.D. Davis.

She Is survived by two sons; Max (Bill) Nelsen and Dean Nelsen both of Traer, two daughters; Donna (Mrs. Robert) Davis of Traer and Betty Koshatka of Cedar Falls, one sister Ruth Dengler of Traer, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great- grandchildren.
