OBITUARY

JEAN STOAKES MOHLER

Jean Stoakes Mohler, 88 of Maxwell, IA., died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998 aI Rolling Green Village in Nevada of congestive heart failure. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 9 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell, with the Rev. Mary Shultz officiating. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer, on Friday afternoon.

Jean was born Jan. 2, 1910 near Traer, lA., the daughter of Rawlin G. and Westina Whannel Stoakes. Jean graduated from Traer High School in 1927. She was united in marriage to Harold Mohler on April I, 1931, and they lived in Graettinger and Traer, until they moved to Maxwell in 1940. Harold died in January of 1991.

Mrs. Mohler was not only a homemaker, but also worked at the Ankeny Ordinance Planl (now John Deere), Larson's Grocery Store, Sherman's Hardware, Iowa State College, Anderson Lumber Yard, and for Ihe Maxwell Community School District in the vocal department with vocal groups and giving vocal lessons, in the kindergarten and third grades. Jean received her Fine Arts Degree from Drake University in 1969.

Jean served as choir director of the Maxwell Methodist Church for 35 years, directed the Junior Choir, and had laught Sunday School. She was in many organizations in Maxwell and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Maxwell Federated Women's Club. She had shared her vocal talents at many weddings: funerals, Farm Bureau meetings and other programs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold; a son, Harold West Mohler; and her two sisters, Ruth Stoakes in 1933 and Evelyn Stoakes Wilson in 1986.

She is survived by a son, Richard Mohler of Maxwell; a daughter, Roberta Viers of Maxwell; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
