OBITUARY

Funeral services for Ruth McMillan, 102, of Traer, were held Saturday, Jan. 28 at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. She died Tuesday evening, Jan. 24, 1995 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, where she had lived since 1988.

The Rev. Rick Vesely officiated at the funeral service. Organist was Mariel Brubaker and vocalist, Jean Staker. Casket bearers were Peter McMillan, David McMillan, Jeffrey Hoppe, Mark Madera, Gilbert Kibby and John Kibby, Jr. Tending to floral tributes were Roy and Ellen Kern and Wayne and Ione Stevenson.

Ruth McMillan was born Dec. 27, 1892 on a farm in Crystal Township southwest of Traer, the daughter of Robert and Nellie (King) Stevenson. She attended country school near her home.

On Nov. 26, 1914, Ruth was married to Albert Russell McMillan at the home of her parents. The couple made their home all their married life on the McMillan home farm in Crystal Township. Albert McMillan died in 1970.

Ruth enjoyed knitting, crocheting and various other crafts. She also enjoyed reading and her flower garden. Ruth was a member of the Traer United Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Tranquillity Church. She was also a member of the church circle, Tama County Farm Burreau Women's Group, the Crystal Friendship Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Albert; one infant son, and a daughter, Jean Kibby who died in February of 1994.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. John (Nelle) Erickson of Traer, Mrs. F. R. (Doris) Madera of Wichita Falls, TX and Kay Hoppe of Albuquerque, NM; 11 grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchidren.
