OBITUARY
Dale Martin Magnussen was born at Clarence, Iowa on June 1, 1919, the son of Arthur and Mayme [Rackard] Magnussen. At an early age, Dale's family moved to Roland, Iowa, where Dale began school. In the sixth grade Dale moved with his family to Traer where they operated a hardware store.
Dale completed his education graduating in the class of 1937. Dale worked in the family business and June 1, 1941, married Marjorie Nissen at Traer. They made their home in Mason City where Dale was employed by the Firestone Store.
He entered the U.S. Army, serving his country during WW II and upon his discharge returned to Traer. Dale became an employee of the U.S. Postal Service and was an accomplished cabinetmaker and woodworker. He made kitchen cabinets for many area homes.
Dale was an active member of the Traer community, serving as secretary of the Traer Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was Past Commander of the Traer and Tama County American Legion. Dale was serving as Postmaster of the Traer Post Office at the time of his retirement.
On Thursday of this past week, Dale was admitted to Covenant Medical Center at Waterloo where he died Friday, Oct. 11, 1991, at the age of 72 years. Dale was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie and son Randy, both of Traer; one brother Max Magnussen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two grandchildren Shelby and Marty, and two great-grandchildren.
