OBITUARY

Homer Speer Brown, age 86, native of Traer, Iowa, son of Dr. Curtis H. and Minnie (Speer) Brown, died on Oct. 3, 1984, at Berwyn, PA, where he resided with his daughter, Sarah B. Robie, and her husband.

Mr. Brown was a graduate of the University of Iowa and in 1917-18 was selected the all "Big Ten Honorary Teams" in both basketball and baseball.

Following military service as an infantry lieutenant in WW I, he attended Columbia University obtaining his masters degree in 1920. He first joined New York Bell Telephone Co., and later transferred to Western Electric in Chicago, serving in executive positions until his retirement in 1963. He completed over 43 years of service.

Mr. Brown resided for 57 years in Oak Park, IL, and was active in the community. He served as commander of the American Legion Post No. 15, treasurer and financial secretary for the First Methodist Church, director of Hawthorne Savings and Loan, was elected trustee for 12 years to the township school board. He was trustee of Oak Park for four years, and served as president from 1961 to 1965.

Married to the late Helen Benjamin of Clarement, New Hampshire, they had two daughters. His wife passed away in 1972 and his daughter Nancy in 1974. Survivors are his sister Marian Card; his daughter Sarah; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
