BUFFINGTON, Merlyn G (1925 - 1995)

OBITUARY

Merlyn G. BUFFINGTON was born October 7, 1925 in Traer, Iowa; son of Frank and Margaret (GOY) BUFFINGTON. Merlyn received his education in country school in Old Buckingham and later Traer High School where he graduated from in 1943. He then worked for Rath Packing for a time until he entered the U. S. Navy. Merlyn served his country during WWII on the U.S.S. West Virginia until his discharge in 1946. Following his discharge he attended a refrigeration and air conditioning school in Chicago, Illinois. He later became employed by Sears Roebuck and Company as a service technician for 38 years until his retirement. On September 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Fern KLEMZ at Cedar Falls and they made their home in Waterloo for a time until moving to a farm northwest of Traer where they have lived all their married life. For the past year Merlyn’s health had failed and his death came at his home on Wednesday, February 15, 1995 at the age of 69 years. In his school years Merlyn was active in sports especially football and basketball. In free moments he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and doing handy work around the house. he was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church and Traer American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Fern of Traer, four sons; Martin, James and Douglas all of Traer, and Bruce of Cedar Falls, one daughter Jennifer BLOHM of Traer and three grandchildren.
