Sherman Ewoldt

Funeral services for Sherman John Ewoldt, 60, of Traer, were held Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer.

Sherman died Friday, Aug. 4, 1995, while on a trip to Mesa, Ariz., after becoming suddenly ill.

The Rev. Mark Binder officiated at the service.

Organist was Joleen Edwards and Deborah Arp served as vocalist.

Casket bearers were Robert Martin, Donald Dirks, Charles Rohach, Larry Lorenzen, Warren Caslavka, David Barnes and Melvin Reinig.

Floral tributes were handled by Beth Dirks, Pat Lundaic, hnia Podhajsky, Margaret Herink, Naomi Reinig, Delores Caslavka and LaVina Rohach.

Sherman J. Ewoldt was born July 17, 1935, at Traer, the son of Elmer and Mildred (Jacobsen) Ewoldt. He attended country school and graduated from Traer High School in the Class of 1953.

On Feb. 9, 1957, he was united in marriage to Faye Lou Wells at the United Methodist Church in Traer. Sherman then entered the U. S. Army and the couple made their home in Lawton, Okla., where Sherman was stationed for two years.

Following his discharge Sherman and Faye Lou returned to Traer where they made their home farming all their married life. In 1990 they purchased a home in Traer and Sherman continued to farm with their three sons.

He was a member of the Ripley United Church of Christ, a Trustee for the Traer Municipal Utilities and currently was serving on the Board of the Tama County Mutual Insurance. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norman. Surviving are his wife, Faye Lou Ewoldt of Traer; three sons and their wives, Timothy and Holly Ewoldt of Traer, Terry and Deb Ewoldt and Mark arid Wendy Ewoldt, all of Dysart two brothers and their wives, Loren and Pauline Ewoldt of Clutier and Royce and Pat Ewoldt of Dysart and six grandchildren.
